Revealing the mystery: The mystery of the bishop’s mummy buried with the fetus is suspected to be due to the fact that this person was pregnant with the child and was punished to be buried alive since the 17th century
Many years ago, an eminent bishop named Peder Pedersen Winstrup was buried on the grounds of Lund Cathedral, Sweden. Born in 1605 in Copenhagen, he was a prominent Bishop of the Lutheran church and royal Chaplain to King Christian IV of Denmark.
He is considered one of the most important figures in 17th Century Scandinavian history. Interestingly, he also represents one of the best-preserved bodies from the 17th century in Europe.
Upon the exhumation of Winstrup’s coffin, it was noted that it contained an unusual bundle: Bishop Winstrup was buried with the remains of a fetus.
