Planet Terror (2007)
Planet Terror (2007) is a stylized action-horror film directed by Robert Rodriguez. It is part of the Grindhouse double feature alongside Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, paying homage to the exploitation and B-movie genre of the 1970s.
The story revolves around a small Texas town that becomes ground zero for a deadly biological outbreak after a toxic gas is released from a military base. The infected turn into grotesque, flesh-eating zombies, and a group of survivors, led by Cherry Darling (played by Rose McGowan), a go-go dancer with a machine-gun leg, and her ex-boyfriend, Wray (played by Freddy Rodríguez), must fight for their lives against the growing horde.
As they attempt to escape the chaos, they also face off against a corrupt military unit, adding to the fast-paced action and blood-soaked carnage. The film’s visual style includes intentional film grain, missing reels, and exaggerated gore, all crafted to mimic the look and feel of low-budget exploitation films.
Planet Terror is packed with over-the-top action, dark humor, and grotesque special effects, making it a cult favorite for fans of grindhouse cinema. The film is a wild, adrenaline-fueled ride, embracing its campy, genre-bending roots.
