Idle Hands (1999)
Idle Hands (1999) is about a teenager who wakes up on Halloween with a blood-thirsty hand. The specific hand used throughout filming also appears in The Adam’s Family (1991).
Fan Review: When teenage slacker Anton (Devon Sawa) finds his own hand turning homicidal and offing his parents, things take a decidedly dark turn. But the weirdness doesn’t stop there! His two equally stoned buddies become undead sidekicks, injecting a bizarre comedic element into the mayhem (sorry, Mom and Dad, you’re staying six feet under). Just when you think it can’t get stranger, Anton lops off the possessed appendage, only for it to embark on its own bloody rampage. Adding a touch of neighborhood charm (and major crush potential for Anton) is Jennifer Alba.
Horror-comedies can be a tricky beast, but this 90s gem nails the balance, delivering genuine gore and chills alongside laugh-out-loud moments. The special effects are a blast, and the punk/metal soundtrack, featuring a cameo by The Offspring at a Halloween dance, perfectly amps up the spooky, silly vibe. Set during Halloween, it’s a must-watch for October. Sure, the plot gets delightfully ridiculous at times, and it’s not claiming cinematic masterpiece status, but pure, unadulterated fun? Absolutely.
