She’ll be remembered as a country music legend.

But Dolly Parton, who has died aged 80, was much more than that.

She was an artist and a humanitarian.

>> Dolly Parton’s final interview is now leaving fans heartbroken.

Just days before her death, the country music legend spoke openly about her health, her future, and the difficult period she had been going through.

At the time, nobody knew those words would become her final public conversation.

Join us as we look back at Dolly Parton’s final interview and the heartbreaking moments fans are now seeing in a completely different way.

The girl from a one room cabin.

Dolly Parton was born on January 19th, 1946 in Seavier County, Tennessee in the heart of the Smoky Mountains.

She was born into a large family with very little money.

But even as a young girl, Dolly had ideas and dreams that went far beyond the small community where she grew up.

Her father, Robert Lee Parton, worked hard to support the family, taking whatever jobs he could find.

Her mother, Ay Lee Parton, was responsible for raising their large household and keeping the family together.

Dolly was one of 12 children, which meant there were many mouths to feed and very little space or privacy.

The family lived in a small one- room cabin near Locust Ridge.

The cabin became one of the most famous parts of Dolly’s life story, but life there was not easy.

The family had limited money and everyday necessities could be difficult to afford.

Dolly later spoke openly about growing up poor, but she also made it clear that poverty was only one part of her childhood.

The Parton home was also full of people, stories, religion, and most importantly, music.

Music was part of everyday life for the family.

Dolly’s mother sang songs and pᴀssed down traditional music to her children.

Ay Lee did not need a recording studio or a large audience to perform.

She sang while doing everyday work.

And those songs became part of Dolly’s earliest memories.

Dolly grew up hearing old ballads, gospel music, and songs that had been pᴀssed through generations.

Her father was not a musician, but Dolly’s mother understood the power of music and encouraged her children’s creativity.

Dolly quickly became especially interested in singing and writing songs.

She did not simply enjoy listening to music.

She wanted to create it.

By the time she was a child, Dolly was already writing songs and looking for opportunities to perform.

She received her first guitar at a young age and began taking her dream seriously.

While other children might have imagined different futures, Dolly seemed to have a clear idea of what she wanted.

She wanted to sing.

She wanted to write songs.

And she wanted people outside her small Tennessee community to hear them.

Her talent soon gave her opportunities beyond her hometown.

Dolly began performing publicly while she was still young and appeared on local radio and television programs.

These early appearances gave her valuable experience in front of an audience.

One of the most important people in her early career was her uncle, Bill Owens.

Owens recognized that his niece had unusual talent and became one of the first adults to help her pursue music professionally.

The two worked together on songs and he helped guide Dolly as she started making connections in the music business.

Their partnership eventually took her beyond local performances.

As a teenager, Dolly began traveling for appearances and gaining experience that many young performers could only dream about.

She even appeared on national television, including programs connected to country music stars of the time.

But Dolly’s real goal was always Nashville.

Nashville was where the country music industry was centered.

And Dolly knew that if she wanted to build a serious career, she needed to go there.

Her family, her hometown, and the Smoky Mountains would always remain important to her.

But she was determined not to spend her entire life wondering what might have happened if she had taken the chance.
