Nolan Wells’ mother Christine Wonsley was at the center of a now-closed misconduct investigation.
After losing her 18-year-old son, Wonsley was the subject of an anonymous complaint and ensuing investigation by the Mississippi Board of Nursing, according to her family’s attorney Ben Crump.
“Someone is trying to take her nursing license anonymously, without the courage to put a name on it,” Crump alleged in an Aug. 5 message on Instagram. “This is intimidation. This is a warning sH๏τ meant to silence a grieving mother who is simply asking what happened to her child.”
According to Wonsley, the investigation has been closed.
“This definitely added more hurt to an already devastating time,” she shared on Aug. 5, “because I love my job and I love my patients.”
The Mississippi Board of Nursing did not confirm details about Wonsley’s case in a statement to Oxygen.com.
“All investigations are confidential and not subject to subpoena or record request,” the organization said Aug. 6. “The Board is legislatively charged with protecting the public and is complaint driven. As such, the Board is required by law to investigate any and all complaints filed with the Board.”
Crump previously blasted the criticism Christine and husband Elmore Wonsley have faced as they seek answers surrounding their son’s death over the Fourth of July weekend.
“Sick people have been going on [Christine’s] company’s website, giving her negative reviews,” he said in a July 30 press conference shared by the National Urban League. “That is a shame before god. They are just sick, evil people.”
Wells’ family has raised significant questions about the circumstances of Wells’ death, even conducting their own independent autopsy, which listed the cause and manner of death as “undetermined,” according to the ᴀssociated Press.
Wells was found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ by a park ranger on July 6, two days after the teenager attended a party on Horn Island.
When asked by Oxygen.com Aug. 6, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, which serves as the parent agency for the State Medical Examiner’s Office, said they don’t comment on the status or findings of autopsies.
